WoodWorkings Gallery

My dad was a carpenter and cabinet maker who taught me a lot about woodworking. Whenever I go into my shop I think about him -- his table saw is at the center, and many of his tools are all around -- and work carefully so that he would be proud. I've done more than I've photographed, but I'll try to catch up and post more photos in coming months.

Push Stick

Why put a push stick on my web site? Because I can't believe I didn't discover how nice a good push stick was until recently. Yeah, I have some of the simple

standard push sticks, but after I made this, I decided that anyone using a tablesaw ought to know how wonderful this is to use, and how much it adds to safety and control.

This is made out of oak plywood. The handle was traced from a comfortable hand saw and then routed with a roundover bit. Note the heel that hooks behind the board. It has a slight angle to it that helps keep everything firmly on the saw. The height of this one keeps my hand a long ways from the saw blade. The height also allows me to cut a new bottom edge when the existing one is too ragged. Of course I can always glue another edge on when it starts getting a little short.

If you use a table saw, take an hour tonight to make one. Like me, you'll wonder why you didn't do it years ago.
